Light influences our emotional state, it can literally brighten our mood. On the other hand, the lack of natural daylight, as well as the reduced light intensity during the autumn and winter months, is considered the main cause of seasonal depression.
An effective therapeutic measure is the so-called light shower. In this case, the affected person stays in the immediate vicinity of an artificial light source with a selected light colour that is rather perceived as cool. With a dose of about 10,000 lux, a treatment period of half an hour is usually sufficient. A light shower in the morning hours is particularly useful. Regularly going for a walk after sunrise has also proven to be effective.
